Everyone, including children, can experience hair loss, called alopecia by doctors. Baldness is undue loss of hair from your scalp. It can result from heredity, a disease or even medicine. The commonest type of baldness is called androgenetic alopecia. It is responsible for about 95% of the cases of baldness in the United States. Androgenetic alopecia affects chiefly males. Two factors impacts upon hair growth: a genetic predisposition to undue hair loss and the male hormone testosterone. Commonly, an enzyme in hair follicles converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT stimulates the growth of body and face hair, but also shrinks hair follicles on the scalp, resulting in thinner, fuzzier growth. A genetic predisposition, along with raised levels of testosterone and DHT, may adversely affect scalp hair growth. Baldness is observed when lost hair outnumbers re-growth or when the re-growth is finer and/or shorter than the hair that is shed. Androgenetic alopecia is considered a cosmetic problem. Propecia (Finasterine) is one the most powerful therapies to cure it sanctioned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Taken once a day in a tablet form, Propecia deteriorates the conversion of testosterone to DHT, thereby preventing the shrinking of hair follicles. The drug therapy is for males only and must not be taken by females, since it can cause birth deformities. GENERIC PROPECIA, which is as powerful as the brand name drug, is much cheaper and, thus, more affordable for males suffering from undue hair loss. At the end of two-year study 83% of males aged 18 - 41 with mild to moderate treated with Generic Propecia were sensitive to the Generic Propecia treatment. The majority of men reported an increase in the amount of hair, a decrease in hair loss, and improvement in appearance. As well as other prescription drugs, Generic Propecia may lead to side effects. In clinical studies, adverse side effects from Generic Propecia were uncommon and did not affect most men. An insignificant number of men faced certain sexual side effects. Each of these adverse side effects occurred in less than 2% of males. These adverse side effects were impermanent and disappeared in men who stopped taking Generic Propecia. These adverse side effects also disappeared in most males (58%) who kept on taking Generic Propecia.
