A great issue occured in Shanghai in 2007. There were Shanghai Special Olympic Summer Games in TWO THOUSAND SEVEN for people who have intellectual disabilities. That event was held in Asia for the first time and it was only secondly it took place beyond the measures of the US. It was set by the Special Olympics. A lot of people from all the continents visited Shanghai to take part or only to watch the competitions. 7, 500 special participants attended Special Olympic World Summer Games, including the best of the 2.5 mln participants who competed in 165 countries to participate in the games. They became a persuasive proof of the fact that Special Olympics is for those people who were capable to overtake their illnesses. Lots of officials, families, volunteers, foreigners and journalists came to that contest. All those who took part were classified into 6 types according to their impairment groups: 1. Amputee: Athletes with any extremity or extremities loss. 2. Cerebral Paralysis: Participants with non-progressive mentality harm or similar diseases effecting muscle control or coordination. 3. Mental Disablement: Athletes with a serious impairment in intellectual operation and associated limitations in adaptive behavior. 4. Wheelchair: Sportsmen with spinal cord wounds and other illnesses which demand them to be in a wheelchair. 5. Visually impaired: Participants with sight disablement ranging from partial sight to absolute cecity. 6. Les Autres: Sportsmen with a physical disability that is not situated strictly under one of the other 5 groups (the title for that family is the French for "the others"). Special Olympics sportsmen of types competed in 25 diverse sports: aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, cricket, cycling, dragon boat racing, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, kayaking, lion dance, power-lifting, roller, skating, sailing, softball, table tennis, team handball, tennis, volleyball, motor activities.
